Nitedals Hjelpestikker is a well-known and popular brand in Norway that was founded in 1922. But Norwegian match manufacturing actually dates back to 1838, and the Nitedal match factory was founded in 1863. The factory in Nitedal was in operation for 32 years before most of its production was relocated to Grønvold in Norway.
The Hjelpestikker Fund raises money for charity from sales of matchboxes and other fire-related products. Every year since 1991, the Hjelpestikke Prize has been awarded to individuals or associations that have made a significant contribution to children, the elderly, or people with disabilities. Since its inception, the Hjelpestikker Fund has donated more than NOK 50 million to charity.
